授業概要 / Class Description In the real world there are more non-native speakers of English than native speakers. Real World English A introduces students to communicating with other non-native speakers of English. This course is designed to help students understand different English cultures of non-native speakers. This course will build on the English skills acquired in a student's freshman and sophomore years. The class will be structured like a workshop, in which students will be presented with real-world themes and concepts for discussion, interaction, and presentations. Topics in this class will be first introduced in a textbook format, however, students will be expected to share their own knowledge or experience, as it relates to the course material. Each student's active participation and completion of class activities will be an essential part of this course. Classroom tasks and activities will allow for conversations to promote greater fluency. Weekly homework will be assigned online, in a Language Management System (LMS), to assist with the development of practical language skills.

Depending on the situation, lessons may be conducted online or on campus (face-to-face). The same core curriculum will be maintained in both situations.
到達目標 / Goal Whether online or on campus students will further develop their communication skills in groups and pairs, to complete tasks and classroom activities. The students will acquire the skills necessary to: 1. actively use vocabulary and phrase structures presented in each theme, 2. participate in conversations related to real-world topics, 3. compare and express other real-world cultures to their own culture, 4. make short presentations of each theme using PowerPoint, Google Jam Board or a similar applications.
